Homemade Biscuits

Flaky, buttery homemade biscuits that are perfect for breakfast or as a delightful side at dinner.

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cubed and very cold
  • 1 cup + 2 tablespoons cold buttermilk
  • 2 teaspoons honey
  • Optional Topping: 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • Optional Topping: 1 tablespoon honey

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (218°C).
  2. Combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl.
  3. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Pour in the cold buttermilk and honey, then gently fold until just combined.
  5. Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and pat it out to about 1-inch thickness.
  6. Use a biscuit cutter to cut out circles of dough, placing them on a lined baking sheet.
  7. Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown.

Notes

Use very cold ingredients for the flakiest biscuits. Chill mixing bowls and utensils if possible.
