Soft Sugar Cookies

Delicate and chewy sugar cookies that are perfect for any occasion, infused with the creamy goodness of cream cheese and aromatic extracts.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3/4 cup salted butter (softened)
  • 4 ounces cream cheese (softened)
  • 1 and 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 and 3/4 teaspoons almond extract
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour (spooned and leveled)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl or stand mixer, beat the softened butter on medium speed until it becomes soft and fluffy, about 1 to 2 minutes.
  2. Add the softened cream cheese to the butter and continue to beat for 1 minute until well incorporated.
  3. Add the granulated sugar and beat well for another 1 to 2 minutes until the mixture is fluffy and light.
  4. Mix in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract, beating until well combined.
  5. Add the salt and flour to the mixture, beating until just barely combined to avoid tough dough.
  6. Scrape the dough onto plastic wrap and chill in the fridge for 2 hours (or overnight) or in the freezer for 1 to 2 hours.
  7. Once chilled, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  8. Line baking sheets with Silpat mats or parchment paper and prepare a floured work surface.
  9. Split the dough if necessary, flatten it slightly, then roll it out to about 3/8 inch thick.
  10. Use floured cookie cutters to cut out shapes and transfer them to the baking sheet.

Notes

Ensure butter and cream cheese are at room temperature for easy mixing. You can add chocolate chips or nuts for variations.
