Easy Pierogi Sausage Casserole

A warm and comforting casserole that combines savory sausage, soft pierogi, and a creamy cheesy sauce, perfect for busy weeknights or family gatherings.

  • 12 oz. pierogi (frozen or fresh)
  • 1 lb. sausage (Italian or kielbasa)
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar or mozzarella)
  • 1 cup chopped onions
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onions and cook for about 3 minutes until soft and translucent.
  3. Add the sausage, breaking it into small pieces, and cook for an additional 5-7 minutes until browned and cooked through.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, combine the sautéed sausage and onions, sour cream, and half of the shredded cheese.
  5. Gently stir in the pierogi, ensuring they’re fully coated in the creamy mixture.
  6. Pour the mixture into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish and spread it evenly.
  7. Sprinkle the remaining cheese on top.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes until the cheese is melted and golden.
  9. Allow to rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

Feel free to substitute sausage with ground turkey or chicken for a lighter option or customize the recipe with your favorite veggies.
