  • 1 large egg
  • ½ cup whole milk
  • ¼ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • ½ cup warm water or brewed coffee
  • 1 cup milk chocolate chips
  • ½ cup sour cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease and flour a 9-inch cake pan to prevent sticking.
  3. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and kosher salt until well combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine the egg, whole milk, vegetable oil, vanilla extract, and warm water or brewed coffee. Mix until smooth.
  5. Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and gently stir until just combined; do not overmix.
  6. Carefully fold in the milk chocolate chips and sour cream until well distributed.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan, smoothing the top if needed.
  8. Bake for about 40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a cooling rack to cool completely.

Notes

Make sure all ingredients are at room temperature for even mixing. For smoother batter, sift the dry ingredients.
