  • 1 box (15.25 oz) chocolate cake mix
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup caramel sauce
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chunks or chips
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • Chocolate shavings (optional)
  • Chopped nuts or toffee bits (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 325°F (163°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the chocolate cake mix, eggs, whole milk, melted butter, baking powder, and sour cream. Mix until smooth.
  3. Pour half of the batter into the prepared dish. Drizzle the warm caramel sauce and top with the remaining batter.
  4. Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  5. Let the cake cool for about 10 minutes. Meanwhile, prepare the ganache by heating the heavy cream and mixing in the chocolate chunks.
  6. Pour the ganache over the cooled cake and let it set for 10-15 minutes before serving.

Notes

For best results, use room temperature eggs and butter. Store leftovers in an airtight container.
