Chewy Sugar Cookies

Delight in the soft, pillowy texture of these Chewy Sugar Cookies that melt in your mouth with each bite.

  • 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
  4. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
  5. Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter/sugar mixture, mixing until no flour is visible.
  6. Scoop the dough onto a lined baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes until edges are lightly golden and centers are soft. Let rest on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For added richness, substitute half of the granulated sugar with brown sugar.
