Chewy Sugar Cookies

Delicious Chewy Sugar Cookies that are soft, slightly chewy, and melt in your mouth. Perfect for any occasion.

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 1/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp almond extract (optional)
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar for dipping

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Cream the softened butter and 1 1/4 cups of granulated sugar together until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract (if using), mixing until well combined.
  4. Gradually mix in flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt until just blended.
  5. Roll the dough into 1-inch balls and coat with the remaining 1/4 cup of granulated sugar.
  6. Place the sugar-coated balls on the prepared baking sheet, leaving about 2 inches of space.
  7. Bake for 10-11 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  8. Cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. Enjoy as is, or frost or glaze for an extra special treat.

Notes

For extra chewy cookies, do not overbake. Store in an airtight container for up to one week.
