Amish Hamburger Steak Bake

A comforting dish featuring seasoned beef patties baked in savory gravy, often topped with tender vegetables.

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional vegetables (e.g., carrots, green beans)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, diced onion, garlic, breadcrumbs, egg, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
  3. Form the mixture into patties (about ½ inch thick) and set aside.
  4. In a large skillet over medium heat, sear the patties for about 3-4 minutes per side until browned.
  5. Remove the patties and add beef broth and soy sauce to the skillet, scraping the bottom to incorporate browned bits.
  6. Return patties to the skillet, place optional vegetables on top, and cover with broth mixture. Let simmer for about 5 minutes.
  7. Transfer the skillet to the oven and bake for 20-25 minutes.

Notes

Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for up to three days. Reheat gently to avoid drying out.
